Interview with Professor James DiCarlo (MIT)
on Neuroscience and AI

James DiCarlo is the Peter de Florez Professor of Neuroscience at MIT and the Director of the MIT Quest for Intelligence. He is also an Investigator at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research.

Formerly the Head of MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (2012–2021), Professor DiCarlo’s research focuses on reverse-engineering the brain’s visual system. His lab combines large-scale neurophysiology, brain imaging, and computational modeling to understand how the brain recognizes objects. This work aims to bridge the gap between human and machine intelligence, using insights from biological vision to inspire more robust artificial intelligence systems and using those AI models to better understand the brain.
